Holy Spirit

I think there has been much misunderstanding and inadequate
teaching concerning the person and work of the Holy Spirit.

If we look at what God’s will is for the individual and what it is for the church,
we see the same thing. The whole purpose of foundational principles teaching
is to bring each of us as individuals to a place where we begin to grow
spiritually or mature.
This maturity is supposed to be a reflection of Christ. God wants us to grow
and to be more like Christ. To be like Jesus in all aspects of our lives.
He wants this for us individually and as a corporate body: the church.

If we look at the church today we see this is very much not happening
in the lives of its members and in “the church” as we know it.

The body of Christ in reality is more a reflection of the world and not of Christ.
Whatever is happening in the world, it is happening in equal measures
in “the church.”

The bible says Jesus is coming back for a bride without spot and without wrinkle.
The church as we know it today doesn’t resemble this picture. People in the church
today are figuratively speaking, getting beat up and this includes leadership too. Why?
Why does the church or bride have a fat lip (division), A bloody nose (sin) and
a black eye (scandal) ?

I understand that as new believers come in that people will be at different levels
of growth in their lives. As long as they’re moving in the right direction.
But in reality the church seems more like it’s bottlenecked, everyone is jammed
up at the neck of the bottle and only a few are getting out.

Now I know that Jesus great love and blood cleanses us from all unrighteousness.
I know that we are all sinners and because of this love He overlooks these faults
and sees us as righteous. His faithfulness and love for us will never die.
But I think you  can see and agree that the wedding would be postponed a little
bit until we’ve cleaned up and healed, making ourselves more presentable for the wedding.

You see that individuals for the most part aren’t successful in walking out their Christian lives,
let alone to go out and do exploits in the name of the Lord.

How do we reconcile that with what Jesus said, “Most assuredly, I say unto you,
he who believes in me, the works that I do he will do also; and greater works then these he will do,
because I go to my Father.”
John 14:12

Now I know some are going to say I’m being to negative, that I’m seeing the glass as half empty.
I need to change my attitude,
think positive and see the glass as half full.
This is my point exactly, no matter how you look at it, whether negatively or positively,
its just still half full.
In the same way the church is just half full, when God promises that we can be
filled with the fullness of Christ Jesus.

Now you might ask why I started out in the introduction speaking about the
Holy Spirit then got into a seemingly long  tangent about the church.
It’s precisely the misunderstanding we have of the Holy Spirit that “the church”
is where it is today.

The reason I started Sword Graphics is to help those individuals who want
to start growing in the Lord andeventually find their calling or gifts so they can
be doers of the Word  and not just hearers of the Word.

After talking to many of these individuals about the Baptism of the Holy Spirit,
which I won’t get into here, but have explained in the foundational principles,
I began to see their lack of understanding in key ideas of the bible.

I sincerely hope that what I’m going to share with you will be a help in your lives.

The Holy Spirit

The first mention of the Holy Spirit in the bible is in   Genesis 1:1-3
“In the beginning… /  “Let there be light.”
The Holy Spirit was with God and The Word (Jesus) at creation.
All three being one God ( and to us there is but one God) were instrumental in creation.

Later on, after God had delivered the Israelites out of Egypt, he commanded Moses
to build a tabernacle.
God told Moses to be careful to build it and to adorn it according to the layout he
had showed him on the mount.
   Exodus 25:40
The importance of this was, that what was built and the things in the tabernacle
were to be a replica of the heavenly things.
Hebrews 8:5
One of the items to be made was a golden candlestick with seven branches as
described in
  Exodus 25:31-40.
A candlestick made of a talent of pure gold. What does it represent and what is it’s purpose?
When Moses set up the tabernacle he placed bread on the table first, then he put up
the lamp stand across from the show bread.
   Exodus 40:22-25.
The purpose was that the lamp would give light unto the show bread.
Both the bread and the candlestick represent types of the heavenly.
The bread as you may know is the bread of life, Jesus, who came down from heaven.
And the candlestick is the Holy Spirit giving light.

The Holy Spirits ministry is always to shine the light on Jesus, that Jesus might be glorified.
See the diagram of the candlestick below. You’ll see the pattern by which it was to be made.
You have the main branch and three branches coming out of each side.
These seven branches represent the seven Spirits of the Holy Spirit.
You can see them on the diagram but in the bible they’re listed in
   Isaiah 11:2.

“There shall come forth a Rod from the stem of Jesse,
And  a Branch shall grow out of his roots.
Spirit of the Lord shall rest upon Him,
                                   The Spirit
of wisdom and understanding,
                                   The Spirit of
counsel and might,
                                   The Spirit of
knowledge and of the fear of the Lord.”

Besides the patriarch Jesse, two other persons are mentioned in the verse above.
That being the Rod or the Branch coming out of the lineage of Jesse.
And also the Spirit of the Lord, being comprised of seven spiritual attributes.
I want to mention again the First Spiritual principle which I explain elsewhere.
That the Word (who became Jesus) and the Spirit produce light.

So we know that Jesus is of the line of David, that’s why Jesus is called the “Son of David”.
Jesse was David’s father.
Jesus is also called “the Branch” in Isaiah and also in
   Zechariah 6:12-13.
“And speak unto him, saying, Thus speaketh the Lord of hosts, saying,
Behold the man (Jesus) whose name is The Branch; and he shall grow up out of his place,
and he shall build the temple of the Lord: Even he shall build the temple of the Lord; and he
shall bear the glory, and shall sit and rule upon the throne; and he shall be a priest upon his throne:
and the counsel of peace shall be between them both.

So Jesus who before he was born on the earth had a pre-existence in heaven.
His name was the Word of God, he was a co-creator with God and the Holy Spirit.
For our sakes he lowered himself and took on an earthly form coming in the likeness of man.
He came to set us free. He came to set us free from the Law of Sin and Death.
It is what has plagued mankind since the fall in the Garden of Eden.

I know that I’ve been speaking mainly about Jesus seemingly almost to the
exclusion of the Holy Spirit.
It’s alright, the Holy Spirit doesn’t mind, just like the Candlestick in the temple,
it’s purpose is to shine it’s light on the show bread.
In the same way the Holy Spirits Ministry is to shine the light on and glorify
Jesus our bread of life.

We read in
Psalms 45:6  “Thy throne, O God, is forever and ever: the scepter
of thy kingdom is a right scepter.
Thou lovest righteousness, and hated wickedness: therefore
God, thy God, hath anointed thee with the oil of gladness above thy fellows.”
What this is saying is that Jesus, being the Word of God loved righteousness
and hated wickedness more than any other living man. He knowing the heart,
the will, and the attitude of the Father concerning sin qualified himself to receive
the anointing of the Spirit in equal measure.
In John 3:34 “For he whom God hath sent speaketh the words of God:
for God giveth not the Spirit by measure unto him.”  Meaning the power of
the Spirit through Jesus was unlimited. Jesus needed this ministry of the
Holy Spirit to fulfill his work here on earth.

Speaking of Jesus,
  Isaiah 61:1-3,
“The Spirit of the Lord God is upon Me, Because the Lord has anointed me
To preach good tidings to the poor;
He has sent Me to heal the brokenhearted,
To proclaim liberty to the captives, and the opening of the prison to those who are bound;
to proclaim the acceptable year of the Lord, And the day of vengeance of our God;
To comfort all who mourn in Zion, To give them beauty for ashes, The oil of joy for mourning,
The garment of praise for the spirit of heaviness;
That they may be called trees of righteousness,
The planting of the Lord, that He may be glorified.”

So Jesus the Son of God came with power (Holy Spirit) and did many signs,
and wonders and miracles.
This to confirm who he declared to be.
John 20:30-31 “And many other signs truly Jesus did in the presence of his disciples,
which are not written in this book:
But these are written, that ye might believe that Jesus is the Christ,
the Son of God; and that believing ye might have life through his name.”

The same Holy Spirit that was in Jesus to do many signs and wonders is
the same Holy Spirit that was in the disciples when they did signs and wonders.
Its this same Holy Spirit that wants to work through all of us, not just the leadership
at the front of the Church, if we’ll let him.
What’s keeping him from doing so? It’s a lack of knowledge on the part of many believers.
Even a lot of the so called Christian leadership if they’re not Charismatic don’t operate in power.
I’m not saying people aren’t knowledgeable about the bible, I’m saying they don’t have
the right kind of knowledge. There are many people who know a great deal of facts about
the bible and many who can even read the biblical languages of Hebrew, Aramaic or Greek.
What’s lacking in their lives is the Holy Spirit bringing light to the scriptures;
This is called revelation Knowledge. You see someone can have every incident of healing
or miracles in the bible memorized and explain it, teach it and write about it.
But until they believe that they can do it (Revelation Knowledge) and not just explain
it they’re operating in head knowledge. The church as we know it today is geared
toward giving messages (sermons) which involves just listening when in reality
the church should be teaching skills (instruction, demonstration, and involvement),
which involves doing. Do you as a faithful church
goer, feel like you're fulfilling your
place or calling in the kingdom by being an effective
Information (knowledge) is the seed to the fruit (revelation Knowledge) of doing.
Like Paul says, “one plants, another waters, but it’s                                                                                     Or
God (Holy Spirit) that gives the increase.”                                                                                                     Doer?
It’s the ministry of the Holy Spirit that brings us to a place of being doers
of the Word and not just hearers only.
We can do this if we ask the Holy Spirit to bring us revelation knowledge
(experience) to what we already know.

Here’s how the church is saying and playing it out today.
Yes, Jesus did all those miracles, but he was God and naturally he can
do anything. But that’s not for us today.
Yes, the disciples did many signs and wonders but they were chosen by Christ.
But that’s not for us today.
Yes, they were all baptized with the Holy Spirit with the evidence of speaking in tongues.
But that’s not for us today.
Yes, when Jesus ascended he gave gifts unto men to operate in to build up the church.
That’s those special few up front leading the service. But that’s not for us today.

If you take away all these things, then what is left for us today? If all we have left,
to look forward to, is holding on until the rapture comes because we deny what God
wants to give us. Let me tell you something, God is coming back, but that’s not for us today.
Not today, not tomorrow and probably not the day after.
Not until we start asking the Holy Spirit as a church to start being an active force
on our behalf. It starts with us as individuals, then we bring it together corporately as the church.
Until signs and wonders is once again a regular occurrence in church life.
If you are born again, you are alive unto God. If you’re not allowing the Holy Spirit
to work through you, then you’re not being useful to God.

We as members of the body of Christ have to be aware of what
Matthew 25:1-12 is saying.
And remember that this parable follows immediately after the parable of the 10 virgins,
the 5 who were wise kept their lamps full of oil, the 5 foolish virgins neglected to keep
their lamps full of oil. Oil is representative of the Holy Spirit in peoples lives.
What are lamps as mentioned in the parable for anyway?
Aren’t lamps obviously to light the way for those going through dark areas.
Likewise the Holy Spirit is likened to a lamp or a light to guard us, to lead us through
trying and dark circumstances. To keep us safe from harm.
Conversely, to be foolish according to the bible is to be in sin or being led astray
from the principles by which God wants us to live.

Matthew 25:24-30. Speaks of  a man who goes away and before he leaves on the journey,
entrusts his goods to his servants.
It is understood that the servants are to use these entrusted assets to profit their master.
Now the master has given to everyone
talents in proportion to their abilities according to his own will. The point is that no one
received less than one talent to use.
Jesus is obviously referring to himself as the master in this parable and Paul confirms
this in
Ephesians 4:7-8 where he says, “But to each one of us grace was given according
to the measure of Christ’s gift. Therefore he says: When He Ascended on high,
He led captivity captive, and gave gifts to men.”

And in
I Corinthians 12:1,7. “Now concerning spiritual gifts, brethern,
I do not want you to be ignorant:
But the manifestation of the Spirit is given to each one(of us) for the profit of all.”

Now these are not latent natural abilities that we are born with,
but  rather manifestations of the Spirit of God.
As it says in verse 11. But one and the same Spirit works all these things,
distributing to each one individually as he wills.
Gods desire for everyone of us is to be saved and filled with His Holy Spirit.
So we like servants can help the master in furthering His agenda on the earth.
When the master returned in Matthew he had his servants give an account of
what their accomplishments were while he was gone. The one who had five added 5 to it.
The one who had two added 2 to it. They were commended by the master as faithful
to the duty assigned to them. They will be rewarded with more. The master says,
“I will make you ruler over many things.”

To the man given one talent, his perception was wrong, he was expected to
at least double what the master had given.
But he didn’t even garner any interest from people in the things of God so
that the banker (Holy Spirit) could work to profit the master. We’re not saved so we can
coast into the kingdom, or in other words wait for the rapture to come and pluck us out of here.
We’re saved to be co-workers with Christ in the service of the Kingdom.
I’m going to make an analogy here. I think I’m right in this comparison,
if not I think you’ll get the point of it anyway.
We know that every believer that is saved is to be baptized with the Holy Spirit.
We know that when Jesus ascended he also gave gifts unto men.
We know that these are not our talents but the talent the Holy Spirit has given to work through us.
By Faith (believing) and being faithful, we not only live a life worthy of our calling,
we also go out and win others to the Lord.
Doesn’t the bible say we’re called to do good works?
The fruit of the righteous is a Tree of Life, and he who wins Souls is wise.
   Proverbs 11:30
You see where the man with one talent missed it was that he didn’t use the ability
that God gave him, either to walk a walk that was worthy of the trust that was given to him,
or to win others to the Lord multiplying his talent.
You see the one talent that everybody is given if they are saved is the baptism or
empowering of the Holy Spirit.

The one talent everybody that is a Christian is to receive to work with is the Holy Spirit.
The same Holy Spirit represented by the candlestick in the temple that shines its light on
Jesus (the bread). The same candlestick that is made of
one talent of pure gold.
The least any of us is given is one talent, the baptism of the Holy Spirit.
That one talent is pure gold. We've been entrusted by the master with his wealth.
We have to come to the realization that it's not our ability but his. His gifts.
As Christians our duty is to find out what our gifts are and start using them to further
the work of the kingdom, thus multiplying the talents. When through your efforts or
involvement in Gods kingdom you win or help to win someone to the Lord, that soul
will bring the talent God has given to him into the kingdom, thus multiplying the talents.
This is how the Lord will keep track of the talents. His whole objective is to bring true
converts and true disciples into His church (Christs body or spiritual temple).

I don’t  think it to far fetched to make that analogy. At any rate this site isn’t to condemn,
but rather to wake people up and encourage them to start working in the gifts God
has given you through the Holy Spirit, so you will not be ashamed when you give an
account of yourselves on that day. Spiritual gifts and callings will be explained further
in the next page of the Holy Spirit.

Remember the 10 virgins in the parable prior? Five used their talent.
Keeping their lamps full of oil (Holy Spirit).
Five did not. Those five did not make it either, along with the servant of this parable.
It’s interesting that Jesus immediately goes into the parable of the day of the last judgment.
There were those that did and there were those that did not the things God the master
desired/required of them to do.
Did they use their talent to work the works of God or did they hold back.
By that time you’re fate will be sealed. Let’s do as the Lord would have us to do, TODAY.

Don’t make the mistake the servant did, by telling me or the Lord that you can’t even
draw peoples interest to the things of God when you’re filled with the Holy Spirit of God.
That’s why men will be without excuse in the judgment.
If it were your own power it could be understandable, but you can’t say that the power
of God is insufficient. Don’t bury the talent, let it shine on the things of God (Jesus)
so you won’t come up short on that day.

The key to the supernatural is relationship,
the key to relationship is the Holy Spirit.

Holy Spirit + relationship = signs & wonders

                                            Him       +       you        =        results
